KEREN MCGINITY TO SPEAK ON FEBRUARY 25th Keren McGinityauthor of Still Jewish: A History of Women and Intermarriage in America, will speak at Temple Emanuel, Newton on Thursday, February 25th at 8 PM. Temple Emanuel 385 Ward Street, Newton, MA 02459 617-558-8100 info@templeemanuel.com Still Jewish has been selected as a finalist for the National Jewish Book Awards and has received enthusiastic reviews. Jonathan Sarna, author of American Judaism, says: “If you thought there was nothing new to say about Jews and intermarriage, think again. Keren McGinity’s well-researched study focuses on American Jewish women who intermarried during the twentieth century and demonstrates that many of them not only remained Jewish, but, paradoxically, became more Jewish.” The book is available in the Rabbi Marshall R. Lifson Library, and there will be copies for sale at the talk. Ms. McGinity is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Contemporary American Jewish Life at the University of Michigan’s Frankel Center for Judaic Studies and a Faculty Associate in the American Culture Program. Before moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, Ms. McGinity lived for many years in Newton, where her daughter Shira attended Solomon Schechter Day School. Her talk, titled “Ruthie’s Irish Abe: Jews, Gender, and Intermarriage,” promises to be interesting to many of us here at Temple Emanuel. Mark your calendars now! Cosponsored by the Keruv Committee, Temple Emanuel Sisterhood, and the Jewish Discovery Institute.
